The Joys of Running

My morning began at 5 am, when I ate my kashi bar and got ready to run. We had to run 1000 meters 6 times at a fast pace with only 3 minutes of recovery. For those of you who don't run, this workout is HARD! During the 3rd, 4th, and 5th 1000, I was behind 4 girls and in front of 2. I was pretty far behind the 4 girls in front of me because they are some pretty beastly runners. Before the last 1000, my coach told me to try to close the gap because when I am running "alone" with a large gap, I get into a comfortable rhythm when I could possibly run faster if I was closer to the girls running faster than me.
This comment made me think of running the spiritual race. I have found this semester that when trying to run it alone, I may not be falling but I am definitely not growing because I am not always around other girls that will encourage me and challenge me spiritually. The Christian walk is not meant to be taken alone. We all need a close friend or 2 to help us along the way.

My workout this morning was hard and painful, but because I ran strong and finished each 1000, I am a better runner. God allows us to experience a lot of difficult and many times painful circumstances, but if we remain strong and overcome them with his help, we will be stronger followers of Jesus.

Loren, I just want you to know that your posts really encourage me a lot. I know for me, all of you guys make me get my head back on straight when I feel like tearing it off. :) But seriously, thank you for being honest about you spiritual walk. It's good to know that someone else is struggling with the same thing.
