This morning we had a 4 mile tempo run (run as fast as you can for 4 miles). This summer, almost every week I had this same workout. The first day I ran it, my average mile time was 7:12. Today, my average mile time was 6:22. It was great to see how far I have come in just a few months.
I believe God wants us to remember things of the past; not to dwell on them, but to remember them. They serve as an encouragement, reminding us where we've been, but also how much further we have to go. Seeing the difference in my workouts really encourages me to see how much faster I can get. However, while thinking of the improvement I have made, I also must remember who has given me the strength to make that improvement. I am positive that God is the one who has gotten me this far. He is the one who gives me the ability and strength to run every day. I am constantly reminded of a verse in a song that says, "Take my body and build it up, may it be broken as an offering of love. For I have nothing, I am nothing without you." My body is God's, and it is by him and for him that I run.
