Sewanne Invite

Saturday was my first race since February. I was originally only going to run the first 2 miles then drop out due to my lack of training, but since the training I have been doing has been going well, Coach wanted me to run the full 5K. I was excited and nervous. Didn't really know what to expect since I've only been training for about 2 weeks. The night before the race, Coach gave us a very long, but inspirational talk that really pumped me up. He told me at the end of it that he wanted me to take more risks and to trust myself and that he wants me in the top 5 of the team. Ever since I started running for him, he has told me to take more risks and to go out harder. I trust him and what he says, but it's harder to trust myself. I'm so scared to go out too hard and then die after the first mile. One of my goals for this season is to take more risks in the race. If I end up dying, at least I know I took some risks and did the best I could.

I think the race went well considering where I am right now in training. I ran the 5K in 20:00, which is a lot slower than my pr (18:27), but I really feel like I ran as hard as I could. However, my coach still said at the end of the race that I should have gone out harder. I really want to get back to the shape I was in before I was injured, but I know it's going to take time. It's great to know that my coach has faith in me, though. Being in the top 5 is a huge responsibility, but it's where I want to be, and I am working my butt off (literally) to be in that spot. (I was #6 for my team Saturday...5 seconds behind #5, and came in 11th place overall...but its a very small meet).

I'm really proud of the rest of the team. Renee came in 1st in 17:57...2 seconds off the course record! I'm really excited for how she's going to do this season! The rest of the girls did great as well. I think we were all aggressive and ran hard. It was a good meet to learn from. Both the girls and guys team took first place!

Hey! I meant to tell you that I saw the pics of you tagged on FB, and I felt like I was watching you the whole race when I flipped through them! Awesome job. I know it stinks to be so far off of your capabilities, but that IS a great start and will get better. When I look back on some of my athletic stuff, I wish at times I would have sacrificed the immediate gratification to do more in the long run. So, think in terms of 3 years, not 3 months. I can't wait to hear about your next meet! It will just keep getting better!
