I am currently winding down from a very busy day. It began with the regionals race in Tuscaloosa. It was such a perfect day. I actually would have liked it to be cooler, but it was beautiful with blue skies and a bright sun. According to my coach, the course is pretty fast, but I think I disagree. It seems like the whole thing is uphill, but I wasn't going to let that affect my last race of the season. The whole race was hard, but it went well...a lot better than SEC's. I actually went through the first mile in 5:51, the fastest I've ever done in a cross country race. It's actually my average time in my 5k indoor pr. That pace definitely didn't last for the whole race, but I ended up running a pr for 6k: 23:07. I really wanted to get sub-22, but I am happy with how I did. I do think I could have started kicking a bit earlier, tho. I was able to finish 5th for our team. I'm so proud of how the other girls did too. Haley, one of the freshman who has really improved this season, lost a shoe in the one mud patch on the course, so she had to run the last 3k with one shoe on! But I think she stayed strong and did her best despite such an awful occurrence.
My parents came to Tuscaloosa last night and took me to dinner and stayed for the race. It has meant so much to me that they have come to my races and the football games. I know it is very hard for my dad since Saturdays are his most stressful days because he has to prepare for his sermons on Sunday. He and my mom are my biggest fans, and it is so encouraging to see and hear them while I'm racing. My aunt also made the drive to Tuscaloosa this morning to watch her first real cross country race. I was so happy she came!
I thought we would get a small break between now and track training, but apparently we start track training next week! Guess my shin splints will have to somehow heal without any rest, although I am taking tomorrow completely off!
When we got back to Starkville, I was able to spend time with my older brother before and at the football game. I have loved getting to see him so much this semester. Although the game was awful, I was happy I got to spend that time with my brother.
I am counting down the days til Thanksgiving!

congrats on the PR- AND top 5 on your team!!!! You will keep moving up and reaching all of those goals. That was awesome work for the limited mileage you were able to do this summer. :)
pr and top 5...wow! What a recovery you've made. i'm so proud of you for staying focused and listening to your body.
i have to agree with you that the al course feels hilly. the hill on the right side (from the start) around that big loop seems soooo long and the short, steep one on the left side was never fun. way to attack them and get a pr!
Thanksgiving Day = less than a week away!!!!!!!!!!!
