First Practice

Today we had our first official team practice. We did a long run, and I ran 87 minutes (probably 11 1/2 miles). I was pretty nervous because I was worried we would go out hard and I would die toward the end. But we actually started conservative and worked our way into the run and stayed at a pretty consistent pace. It was so great to run with the team again. We talked the whole time about our summers and new apartments and this upcoming season, which made the run go by quickly. I think we are going to have a great year. All the girls have been training hard this summer and have a good competitive drive. I'm so excited to be back training with them!

Yesterday was our team meeting and it was the first time I had seen most of the girls all summer. I knew it would be hard for me because of how I compare myself to others, but I really tried not to focus on how the girls looked and not to worry about how I looked. This morning was a bit hard because all the girls were in sports bras and short shorts, but it didn't affect me as much as I thought it would. I usually run in a sports bra when it is this hot outside, but I have made the decision to wear a tank top from now on. I know that when the team is all wearing sports bras I start to compare myself to everyone, and if anyone else goes trough that, I don't want to be a stumbling block for them by not wearing a shirt (if that makes any sense). It's also better for me because I'm much less worried about what I look like if I have a shirt on. I in no way think running without a shirt on is bad, nor do I look down on anyone who does. This is just a personal decision I have made because I think it is best for me.

My sister-in-law gave me a book before I left home by Beth Moore: "So Long Insecurity." I started reading it today, and it is actually really good. There are a lot of good points and it is challenging me to dig deep into finding and dealing with the roots of issues I face.

I am super excited about church tomorrow! Time to meet some new students!

the first practice. i never liked that one. the new girls would try to impress and push the pace while us seasoned girls would just chat about our summers and get annoyed by the new girls' tendencies to push the pace. always an interesting practice. looong run y'all did too! wow! do you go to a camp for a week of training away from campus?

i was surprised we didn't take it out too hard. it made for a very good long run. we don't go anywhere to train before school starts, but that would be so awesome if we did!
