MSU Invitational

I had planned on giving a detailed account of my race on Saturday, but I figured the details may be a little boring, so I will just give a quick run through of how it went.

My legs have been feeling awful for the past week and a half, mainly my quads. My workouts had not been going well leading up to the race, so I was pretty nervous going in, especially because of the hill on our course that we have to run up twice. This beast of a hill is longer and steeper than any hill I have ever run on for a race. I knew I was going to hurt, so I just decided I was going to suck it up and run as fast as I could despite the pain.

Considering how my legs have been feeling, I am happy with how I ran. I would have liked to run faster and beaten some more girls, but I gave my best effort and had nothing left at the end. My time was 19:44, 42 seconds slower than 2 weeks ago. I was expecting my time to be a little slower because of the course, and considering how I have been feeling, I am not disappointed in the time I ran.

It helped so much having my parents at the race! They are my biggest cheerleaders. They were at so many different places on the course ringing their cowbells and yelling their hearts out. I also had some friends come out and cheer me on, which helped immensely! Having people cheering for me helps me so much when I run. It meant so much to me that these friends woke up early on a Saturday and sacrificed some of their time to come watch us run.

This week is a pretty hard week of training. We have only been doing lactate threshold workouts so far this semester, but this week we are doing our first VO2 max workout to start working on speed. I'm hoping my legs feel better for the workouts this week!

There are more things I want to give updates on, but since this post is already somewhat lengthy I will wait for another day. Time to go do laundry!

I know it doesn't feel fast in comparison to the company you keep on a daily basis, but that time is fast. You are a great runner- so many could only dream of breaking 20. Just keep at it...you know stuff will click again. I am so proud of you as always!!!!!! You rock!!!!
