Pre-Nats

This past weekend I raced in Terre Haute, Indiana for pre-nationals. The only races I have ever run in cross country have been 5K (3.1 miles). This race was my first 6K (almost 4 miles...3.7 miles to be exact). After running the course on Friday (the day before the race), I was very nervous about it. It seemed like it would be extra hard to race on. However, I ended up loving racing on it Saturday. I don't usually "enjoy" races, mostly because I'm nervous and feel like I want to die toward the end (a great feeling by the way). On Saturday, though, I had fun running the race.
During the last 1000 meters, I heard a girl on the side yelling at someone behind me, "just finish the race!" For some reason this got me going faster because it made me somewhat mad. When I race, I run to see how fast I can go until I have nothing left. It is so much more than "just finishing the race". It is running to your absolute limit. I have no regrets from Saturday. After hearing that comment, I gave everything I had left in me until I crossed the finish line.
My time was 23:27. I am happy with it since it was my first 6K, but I hope to make a huge improvement in my next race November 3.
