A hard part about getting back into training is having to learn how to endure the pain during the workouts. It's hard, but it's good...I wouldn't have it any other way. I haven't felt that kind of pain since indoor track season. Yesterday's workout was hard: 3 x 400's with 60 seconds recovery between each, 4 x 1200 with 4 minutes recovery between each, then 3 more 400's. I have done much harder workouts than this before, but it has been a very long time. Despite how hard and painful it was, I'm very happy with how I did, especially considering the lack of training I have had. It feels so good to be doing workouts with the team. I'm really excited about how we are going to do this season!
On a different note...my grandfather is probably one of my favorite people! He moved in with my family almost 2 years ago. He will be 90 years old in November, and doctors are amazed he is still alive. He smoked for many years and developed emphysema as a result. Doctors say that it is rare to see someone live with this as long as he has (I think he has had it over 40 years!) He is in a wheelchair because he can't take more than 5 steps without getting out of breath. Even the simplest tasks affect his breathing. Other than his emphysema, he is very healthy. He eats whatever he wants (fried foods, tv dinners, chocolate, honey buns), but is so healthy! I look up to him so much. Despite what he has to battle on a daily basis with his breathing, he is the most positive man I know. He never complains, and always finds the good in even the worst situation. He loves watching the birds and the deer in the back yard during the day. He also likes to watch the wooden fence in the back yard get darker when it rains and get lighter as it dries:)
When I am home, I wash his hair for him over the sink, and do anything else he needs during the day. Over the summer, he and I worked on the crossword puzzle every day while we ate breakfast. Since I don't get the newspaper here, he mails me copies of the puzzle. It makes me so happy to get those in the mail; not only because I'm happy about working them, but also because it shows how much he cares. It's just not the same working the puzzles without him, though. I miss him and love him so much! I am so thankful he is a part of my life!
