First Race 2010

Well this post is the first of many to come in 2010 about my races. We traveled to Lexington, KY over the weekend (such a long ride) to race in our first indoor meet of the season. I didn't know what to expect really. It seems so early to be racing and we really haven't done much speed work since cross season. I felt good starting the race. I went out at the pace I wanted to stay at...only I didn't end up staying at that pace. I honestly don't remember much about the race except that my mouth was incredibly dry (do to the conditions inside) and I was tired of running when I still had 6 laps to go. Ideally I would have wanted to set a pr, but I was far from it. I ran the 3k in 10:56, which is slow to me. Last year when I ran it, I finished in 10:33. However, there are many differences between this year and last. One big one is that last year I raced the 3k much later in the season and had more speed work (and more training in general) to work off of. I was disappointed in my race, but looking at everything in perspective, I'm not bummed out about it. None of the girls on the team who raced it did as good as I know they could have done, and I think it is because it is so early. I will keep putting the work in and hope that I start seeing results. We travel to Indiana in 2 weeks, where I will either race the 3k or the 5k.

Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend!

sounds like a great time for your first race of the season. you'll get your racing legs back quickly. i think that it always takes a couple of go's at it before you feel in the groove again.

Thanks for the comment on my blog! I'm hoping to run the 3k in under 10:30... we'll see how it goes! Either way, I have to start somewhere... just like you. Keep at it!
