Race Report

The weather was perfect for the race today. It was actually cold when we first got to the course, but it quickly warmed up and was sunny and around 60 degrees when the gun went off. I knew going into the race that I would have to get out fast because of how many girls would be running. This course gets narrow fast and is tight the entire first mile. I didn't want to get stuck in a bad position that would be hard to get out of, so I wanted to go out fast and get in a good position at the beginning.
I didn't get out fast enough and had to work the whole first mile just to get in a good position. There were 300 girls racing so it was difficult to move up the first mile. Things got a little better between the 1st and 2nd mile. I was still working hard to move up because I got too far back the 1st mile, but the pack had started to spread out. When I got to the 2 mile, I was really happy with my pace and the position I was in, but I knew I had to keep fighting and that I had a lot of girls to pass.
The 3rd mile was not the best. There were a lot of girls who passed me, and I didn't fight back. I was still running hard, but I should have been tougher. I crossed the finish line in 18:55, a 7 second PR.
I am very happy that I ran a PR, but I think I could have run faster. I wish I could have gone out faster and raced tougher at the end, but I am happy with my race. I learned some good lessons, and I'm excited about continuing training.
A lot of girls had great races today. Renee, Haley, Dominique, and Eileen all ran PR's and scored points for our team. Our next race is in 2 weeks at Appalachian State!
