I successfully completed my first race since indoor track season ended! I ran a 4 mile race called zoom through the zoo. I didn't really have any expectations for the race, but I knew I didn't want to take it too hard because of my achilles. I guess I just had the urge to run in a race, even if I wasn't necessarily running at race pace. I'm very satisfied with how I ran considering I haven't done any speed work since the end of February and my legs were still tired from a long run two days earlier. I ran the four mile in 26:24 (6:36 pace), which is 24 seconds faster than my tempo run on Sunday! My splits were all over the place, but I think it's because I didn't know the course at all. I finished second for the females. The first place winner ran it in 24:51. I can't remember her name but I think I saw her run in the Germantown half marathon and she finished third. The race was a lot of fun and also encouraging for me. I think I'm going to take the training down a notch until June 1 just to make sure my achilles is ready for base training.
Today will involve much cleaning around the house. We have family coming in for the weekend. I love it when they come, but it's so stressful preparing for company (especially since our hot-water heater, which is only a year old, just went out). This weekend should be interesting with everyone taking showers in my brother's bathroom, the only one with hot water. Hope everyone enjoys their Memorial Day!

i'd love to see you sometime this summer! we'll be in town through next week and then we'll be out of town for about a week and a half. after that, i'll probably be here waiting for baby johnson to arrive!
I think I saw you out there Loren. I wasn't racing but cheering with the breakaway guys at the corner after you get out of the park. The first OA girl's name is Carolyn. I don't really know her but she goes to the Paul Sax track workout on Tuesday nights. Great job out there!
Nice work girl. Enjoy your training this summer and listen to your body! Do not over do!
Are you going to summer school?
