BRRR!

Since the weather man predicted 100% chance of snow for yesterday, and since the school canceled all classes, I was expecting to wake up to a white, winter wonderland. However, when I woke up yesterday morning, I was surprised and disappointed to look out my window and see nothing more than a gray, cloudy morning. I had to run 5 miles on my own so I put on my clothes and shoes and started out the door just as it started raining/sleeting. I went ahead and started running since it wasn't too bad. About 30 minutes into my run, it began to snow! This was my first time running in snow and it was wonderful...until I started running into the wind and had snowflakes hit my eyes. The snow did not last for long, but it was so good to see it!

This morning was pretty eventful as well. I woke up, looked on weather.com, and saw it was 16 degrees with a windchill of 6! I don't think I've ever run in that cold of weather. I feel like such a wimp compared to those who live up north because this is probably just another normal January day to them. I went out for an easy 3 miles and it was so miserable! I could take the temperature, but the wind was just awful! When I returned to my apartment, it was locked...and no one was there to let me in! I was freezing and could not find warmth! I had to run somewhere to get a worker to let me in. Fortunately I found someone and got in, but then I had to thaw out. Not a very fun morning if you ask me. I have to run again this afternoon, and I am just praying that the wind subsides by then!

It's so strange to me, I don't think your a wimp, just not prepared. It snowed here today too, and my response was "oh, phew... It's warm out"...because when it's snowing, there is insulation from the cloud cover. If it's not, usually it's well below 30! Which is "too cold to snow"

I wrote a blog entry on winter running tips last week, never thought someone from the South would need them! Vaseline helps with the wind, it's like a shield. Hope your second time out was not as cold!
