Tomorrow I will be participating in $2.00 Tuesday. This means I will be attempting to live on $2.00 for the whole day. I am having to cut back on a lot of things. I will not be washing my hair, but I will be showering after practice. I will not be driving my car. I am going to try not to use much electricity. This one will be hard since I get up before the sun rises and go to bed after dark. I will be using a candle in the morning and at night, I will only have the light on if I need it. I will only use my internet once or twice to check my email. Fortunately, I don't have to pay for dinner tomorrow night since I have an SDA meeting, which provides dinner. My coffee is free since it was given to me, and I have some food at my apartment that was given to me, so it will also be free. It's crazy how much we spend every day on basic things without even realizing it. We have so many resources here in America that could help people in poverty and hunger, yet so often we are too focused on ourselves and are comfortable being ignorant of the many needs around us.
I am doing a capstone project this semester for my leadership program. My partner and I are working with Soles4Souls by doing a shoe drive on campus through March 31. People can donate used shoes, and Soles4Souls will distribute them to people in need of shoes in our country and around the world. We have had a lot of success so far, not only with donations but also with the media. I have been interviewed on "My Mississippi," we had an article in the Reflector, Soles4Souls is coming on campus to interview us, and there is a possibility the local news will be doing a story on this project. It is going far better than expected, and I hope we continue to collect shoes so that we can reach our goal of 1,000 shoes by March 31.
I have been able to run a little bit the past couple of weeks. I am up to 2 miles! I still have a lot of scar tissue that causes some pain, but it has been going very well. It still swells after I run and is a little sore, but I am icing and massaging multiple times a day. It feels so good to be running, even if just for 2 miles. I cannot wait until my first long run!
My coach saw my last blog post and talked to me a little bit about it. I am actually glad he did because I didn't have the guts to say anything to him about it because of embarrassment, but I think it's good that he knows. He is going to get me in to see the sports dietitian here on campus. I am really excited about getting to meet with her and hope that her nutrition advice will help.
Spring break starts at the end of this week! I am so ready for a break from classes!

That's great that y'all have had so many shoes donated! I never seem to get out of the office to find one of your drop-off boxes; if I bring some to choir Wednesday night, will that work? I want to contribute! I know you are looking forward to Spring Break! When you get back, we DEFINITELY need to spend some time together!
I know you probably wont get this for a while, but this sounds like a really great challenge for you! Good for you!
