I Want to Chop My Leg Off

3 days down, 37 to go! I have not eaten past 9:00, and I have memorized 3 verses so far:

Psalm 25:4-5
Show me the path where I should walk, O Lord. Point out the right road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.

Psalm 37:5-7
Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him and he will help you. He will make your innocence as clear as the dawn and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don't worry about evil people when they prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Psalm 42:1-2
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and stand before him?

A lot of my verses will most likely be from psalms because that is what I am studying right now, and really enjoying it!

Tonight Renee and I went to dinner at Nathan and Ashley's (our college pastor and his wife). I had such a great time! I probably could have stayed and talked to them for hours! They both have such great hearts longing after God and desiring to pour themselves into college students. I look forward to spending more time with them and getting to know them better.

Tomorrow I am supposed to run 13 miles at 7:00 pace! I really hope I can do all 13 at that pace. I'm actually more worried about my leg than anything. I have had shin splints in my right leg since last October, and I think it is starting to affect the rest of my leg. I feel pain not only in my shin/calf, but also on the inside and outside of my ankle and high in the back of my leg. Running is becoming miserable for me because of all the pain I feel. Today it was hard to do 5 miles. Hopefully tomorrow won't be as bad since I will be going at a faster pace. I just don't know what else to do. I go in for treatment before and after every run and I stay off of pavement for the most part. I guess I will continue to run with the pain since it is not unbearable, but I don't want to make it worse than it is. I just don't feel like I can afford to take time off since outdoor season starts soon. My trainer wants me to try another dose pack to see if that will help. Bring on the drugs!

Hope you all enjoy the weekend! Aside from my running, I will hopefully be getting schoolwork done since I have 2 things due Monday and 3 things due and a test on Tuesday! Gotta love schoolwork!

From my experience, most injuries are connected at the hips. You may feel the pain in your shin, but that doesn't guarantee that your shin is the real problem (just a symptom of the problem)... Try some yoga to loosen hips so that all the muscles and tendons running down your leg will loosen too... (my "calf" injury was a hip problem... when I treated it I stretched my hips, not my calf) If you don't want to go to a class, some poses that help me are pigeon, pyramid, Triangle, reverse triangle-- probably can get them online somewhere.

Do you do toe taps to strengthen the shin? That works great! (sit in a chair, and tap your toes for one minute... then try to tap them with your foot turned in, and foot turned out)

Another suggestion is get a stability disc or wobble board and stand on it. You might not notice if it's doing anything, but it works!

Hang in there! and don't be afraid to REST!

I second what Caitlyn said. Also do a lot of hip abductor strengthening-
1. sidelying leg lifts (where you lie on your side and lift top leg up- make sure you don't let it come in front of your body),
2. monster walks with theraband (tie theraband around your ankles and take steps side ways while you face forward. make sure your toes stay forward and don't let them turn out), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CGNwL5xSd0
3. sitting example of hip abductors http://www.ehow.com/video_2356879_do-hip-abductor-exercises.html
4. sidelying clamshells: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zhAJiBmJRE
